Ever wonder why ballerinas have such long, graceful necks? Well, you don’t have to be a ballerina to use this simple trick to bring elegance and ease to your own neckline. Try it and see!

Click here for our Facebook video about considering your crown!

As the hub of four senses (sight, sound, smell, and taste), speech, and a myriad of facial expressions, our heads are a hive of communication and activity. So it’s no wonder that the head is the single most observed part of the human body. It also happens to be pretty heavy, comprising some 8 to 12 pounds. For these reasons, bringing consciousness to how you hold your head has healthy and beautiful benefits.

Ballet dancers carry their heads in a supported way that exudes poise and confidence. It’s all about posture! Good posture extends up from the base of the spine right out the top of the head… Of course it also helps to wear a beautiful tiara! But even minus the jewels, walking around sporting an imaginary crown instantly engages the neck muscles to create length and support that look and feel gorgeous.

So here’s what you can do to consider your crown and heighten your elegance:

Exercise 1

  1. Stand comfortably on 2 feet.
  2. Place fingers 2 inches below the navel.
  3. As you draw in and up in the lower abdominals, press the top of the head upwards.
  4. Release your shoulders away from the ears and take 3 breaths, maintaining the work of the core and the crown of the head.
  5. Release and repeat 3 more times.

Exercise 2

  1. Stand comfortably on 2 feet.
  2. Place fingers 2 inches below the navel.
  3. As you draw in and up in the lower abdominals, press the top of the head upwards.
  4. Release your shoulders away from the ears.
  5. Turn your chin right, take a deep breath while continuing to press the top of the head up.
  6. Center your head and repeat to left, being sure to release the shoulders away from the ears and hug in the core with each movement.
  7. Repeat right and left, 3 times each way.

–Happy Dancing!
