Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have prior ballet training. Can I do these exercises?

YES! Everyday Ballet teaches you everything you need to know to start doing ballet!

What if I don’t have a dancer’s body?

Everyday Ballet’s body-positive training method is designed for every body. You don’t have to be any particular size or shape and you don’t need to be strong, flexible, or coordinated to start ballet and reap all the benefits it has to offer.

What do I wear?

Wear comfy exercise clothes and regular socks, or ballet slippers if you like.

Do I need a ballet barre or other special equipment?

You do not need a ballet barre. Just use the back of a stable chair or a countertop for balance. Most of the exercises are done standing, but you may wish to use a yoga mat or towel for any floor sequences.

Is ballet like taking a barre class?

Not really, but Ballet is the original barre workout that inspired the barre fitness phenomenon. In Ballet, other than a light hand on the barre, there are no weights or props. Ballet exercises use full-range movements that train posture, core, and extension to lengthen and refine muscles while developing grace and elegance. By contrast barre fitness uses small contracting movements to tone muscles.  A couple of barre moves may look like ballet, but the similarity really stops there.

I used to dance. Is Everyday Ballet advanced enough for me?

BASIC membership is primarily intended for Adult Beginners but addresses all levels. Even if you have prior training, you’ll get expert tips for better technique, as well as a challenging workout. More advanced dancers should subscribe to CLASSIC to get a variety of advanced training options.

I'm a Senior. Is Everyday Ballet for me?

Whether you're 19 or 90, ballet is excellent for strength, tone, flexibility, balance, posture, and coordination. But even beyond the physical benefits, ballet encourages mental focus and calm. BASIC membership is perfect for Seniors. In fact, there are a number of Everyday Ballerinas (or Ballerinos) who are in their 70s and 80s! If you need any assistance for modifying exercises, you can always reach out and we'll help you make the most of your ballet journey!

Is ballet a good workout?

Ballet is the ultimate workout for people who want to feel beautiful as they refine their bodies. The level of physical challenge depends on proper form. The more correctly you do ballet technique, the more intense it becomes and the better your results will be. Ballet also works smaller muscles many workouts leave out. Through movements that combine posture, core control, and fluid extensions, ballet  develops the signature length, tone, and elegance of an authentic “Ballerina Body”.
